The craft record
The owl was drawn seven times before she was allowed into linden. She sits above the dial with her wings folded, and the crescent moon behind her is cut so shallow that it only appears when the room's light is low — a carving made for the hours it is named after.
The case is waxed dark, never stained: eleven coats, each rubbed back by hand, so the year-rings of the wood still read under the finish. The dial is walnut from the same valley, and the hands were cut from a single offcut of the case.
